What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It's based on the idea that our thoughts influence how we feel and act. By changing unhelpful or negative thought patterns, we can improve our emotions and behaviour. Likewise, changing your behaviour will also influence how you think and feel. You chose the changes you want to make based on your goals, and together we create a plan to reach them.

CBT is a structured, goal-oriented, and evidence-based therapy used to treat a wide range of mental health conditions.

What to Expect in Your First Session

The first session is an opportunity to gain a shared understanding of your current difficulties, how they developed, and how they are maintained. Together, we then create a treatment plan to help you overcome the problem, using a collaborative approach. The assessment lasts around 1 hour.

Ongoing therapy sessions last around 50 minutes, and you are encouraged to think about what you want to get out of each session. Together we work towards achieving your chosen agenda.

The time between sessions provides an opportunity for you to learn what works best for you, and what does not work for you. This experiential learning is essential to bring about lasting change.
